The First Conditional – Form and Use

The first conditional is used to talk about things that may come true in the future. The results are possible and could easily happen, as long as the conditions are fulfilled.

To form the first conditional we use present simple in the “if” clause and future simple in the result clause.

[Condition] + [Result]
[if + present simple], + [future simple]

If Mark is late for work again, he will be dismissed.
If they have any questions about the new application, they will give you a call.

[Result] + [Condition]
[future simple] + [if + present simple]

I will talk to her if I see her.
We will buy new furniture for the office if we have enough money.

We do not normally use “will” after “if” or “when“.
