Passive Voice – Structure: Perfect and Future Tenses, Modal Verbs

The following transformations from the active to the passive are necessary in these tenses:

Present Perfect passive: have/has been + past participle
Computers have been turned off.

Past Perfect passive: had been + past participle
Computers had been turned off before the disaster.

Future Simple passive: will be + past participle
Computers will be turned off tomorrow.

Be going to: am/are/is going to be + past participle
Computers are going to be turned off for security reasons.

*Modal verbs in the passive : can/must/should be + past participle
Computers must be turned off.

*modal verbs that are followed by bare infinitives (without “to”)

**Modal verbs in the passive (2): have to/need to/ought to be + past participle
Computers have to be turned off immediately.
