English Grammar Reported Speech Reported speech – Usage

Use the reported speech when you want to say what someone else has said (i.e. you don’t provide direct quotation of someone’s words).


Nick: “I am tired.”
You say what Nick told you: Nick said he was tired.


Use the reported speech to refer to what you’ve heard on the news, read in the papers or found in
other sources.
