English pronunciation workshop objectives
- Improve your general pronunciation in English.
- Increase awareness of the most common pronunciation mistakes made by non-native speakers.
- Develop a more natural-sounding accent in English.
- Improve fluency and intelligibility when speaking English.
- Become more confident when communicating in English.
Who is the English pronunciation workshop for?
Target group: English language users at min. B1 who want to improve their pronunciation, intonation, and accent in English.
Form of classes - elective
- Workshops for individuals and small groups of up to 6 people (maximum focus on the Participants, possibility for the trainer to correct pronunciation during the class).
- Webinars for large groups (no limit on the number of Participants) with presentation of the principles of correct pronunciation and exercises for individual work (no possibility of correction by the trainer). The price of the webinar includes a video recording for the client’s internal use.
Classes are taught online via Zoom by experienced language trainers who come from various English-speaking countries.
Classes possible from 6:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m. Monday to Friday and 8.00 a.m.–8:00 p.m. at weekends.
Course content
Sample programme for a workshop or webinar (can be modified at your request)
1. Long and short vowels, as in “cheap/chip” (BrE)
– perfecting the pronunciation of vowels in minimal pairs
– identifying differences between vowels and their effect on meaning
– practising pronunciation of words in isolation and sentences
– increasing confidence in speaking
2. th and other consonants (selected)
– perfecting the pronunciation of “th” and other selected consonants
– identifying voiced and unvoiced consonants and the differences in the meaning of words depending on the consonant used
– practising pronunciation of consonant clusters
– developing confidence in pronouncing words containing “th” and other selected consonants
3 Silent letters
– recognising silent letters in English pronunciation
– improving the pronunciation of words with silent letters
– developing strategies for remembering the correct pronunciation of words with silent letters
– increasing confidence in speaking English with correct pronunciation of silent letters
4 Word endings
– perfecting the pronunciation of word endings in English
– distinguishing between types of word endings (e.g. -ed, -s, -ing)
– developing strategies for accurately pronouncing word endings
– increasing confidence in speaking English with correct word endings
5 Homophones
– recognising and distinguish between English homophones
– increasing awareness of the use of homophones in English
– developing strategies for remembering the correct pronunciation of homophones
– increasing confidence in speaking English with correct pronunciation of homophones
6 Stress and rhythm (BrE or AmE variant)
– recognising and practising verbal stress in English
– increasing awareness of the role of sentence rhythm and intonation
– developing strategies for emphasising important words in spoken English
– increasing confidence in speaking English with the correct accent and rhythm
7. business words with difficult pronunciation
Specific objectives:
– improving pronunciation of business-related vocabulary
– practicing pronouncing difficult business words
– increasing confidence in using English in a business environment
8. e-Commerce related words with difficult pronunciation
Specific objectives:
– improving the pronunciation of e-Commerce vocabulary
– practising the pronunciation of difficult e-Commerce words
– increasing your confidence in using English in an e-Commerce environment
9 IT words with difficult pronunciation
– improving pronunciation of technology-related vocabulary
– practicing pronouncing difficult IT words
– increasing confidence in using English in an IT environment
10 British pronunciation vs. other varieties of English
Specific objectives:
– comparing the pronunciation of the British variant with other varieties of English (e.g. American, Australian)
– identifying differences in accent and pronunciation between different varieties of English
– practising speaking with a British accent, if this is the target variant
